Been there, done that. Maybe still here?
Searching for the perfect saddle, best bridle and that perfect bit when your horse feels like a million. It's both fun and frustrating at the same time.
Let us get started with things to think about choosing a bit for your horse.
Check teeth and mouth regularly, for sharp etches and wounds. Young and older horses need to be checked more often. 1-2 times a year.
Big lips? Big tongue?
This is something you might haven´t thought about.
Many equestrians don't think about this, and still, it is a common problem.
At least when you are trying to fit a bit in there as well.
In this case, using a thick bit will result in the horse trying to escape it.
Sticking their tongue out or over the bit, anything to get away from the pressure.
Using a flash here is not the solution.
Thick bits have for many years seem like the more gentle pic. However, I beg to differ.
Thinner bits will take less space in the mouth and make it comfortable for the horse to swallow and breathe easier, get more air while working. All this together ends up with a more relaxed horse and acceptance.
Presuming the rider have a gentle and stable hand from the beginning.
However, as always, no horse is or look the same.
Let us think about fitting a bit for our horse the same way we think about getting a new saddle.
There are still so much to improve.
Fager will not be afraid to be first on the market with features and solutions that will stand out from the crowd.
Let me put it like this,
It might look weird, but it will feel amazing - your horse.
